Library Advisory Committee (LAC)
The purpose of the Library Advisory Committee is to ensure the implementation of a wholistic, well rounded library vision. The members of the committee agree to work together to create and shape a library program that not only aligns with the school improvement plan and the accreditation goals of the school, but continuously strives to meet the dynamic needs of the entire school community.
The LAC will have one meeting per quarter, as well as two other meetings throughout the year. Meeting times will be established at the beginning of the year by committee members.

Library Staff Code of Conduct
Timberwolf Library Staff will:
1. Provide user-friendly, knowledgeable service for all: students, staff, and parents.
2. Provide high quality resources.
3. Provide a safe and comfortable place for learning.
4. Support classroom learning.
5. Maintain a professional atmosphere.

Operating Guidelines:
1. Provide user-friendly, knowledgeable service for all: students, staff, and parents.
  • First, greet each person with a warm friendly message
  • Second, ask how you may help them
  • If necessary, ask students to sign in on the clipboard
  • The library staff will be familiar with the GMMS Library web pages
  • The library staff will be familiar with the databases provided by GMMS, District 51 and MCPLD
  • The library staff will be familiar with the software used by students
  • The library staff will be familiar with the computers and able to trouble shoot basic problems with software, hardware and LAN user accounts

2. Provide high quality resources.
  • Students and staff may use any and all of the library resources
  • Students may check out several books at a time unless the classroom teacher places restrictions*
  • The final selection of materials is the Teacher Librarian's (TC) decision (Teacher Librarian will adhere to goals set by LAC)
  • Library staff is expected to make suggestions for acquisition of popular books or titles that are repeatedly borrowed from other libraries.
  • Library staff is expected to inform the TC of missing books, popular books and requests made for new books, sequels etc.
  • New acquisitions will be ready for check out within 3 days of their arrival in the library
  • Kindly accept donations and state that the TC will make the decision about how to use their donation
  • Inform the TC of issues and concerns regarding patrons and materials
  • Replace office supplies as needed and inform the TC of purchases needed
*Each year is a fresh start for every student: access to books (book check-out) will not be restricted due to past history.

3. Provide a safe and comfortable place for learning.
  • Organize the library
  • Keep working areas clean
  • Posters and signs will make positive statements
  • Address students by their proper name, unless they ask you to use a nickname
  • Comments and questions stated to students will be professional
  • Comments will be non-judgmental and non racial
  • Report repairs to custodian and/or technology via email and cc: TC
  • Quietly, respectfully inform students of over due books, fines, and other problems
  • Help students to be where they need to be (as opposed to ‘catching’ them doing wrong)
  • Help students to stay on task (we are not the internet police)
  • Recreational computer use is, in general, discouraged. However, if students are not disturbing others, the computers are not needed by other students for school related purposes, and the use falls under RUA guidelines, the library staff may allow recreational computer use

4. Support classroom learning.
  • Avoid interrupting classes. Example: Deliver books in a classroom and/or communicate with teachers and students before class begins, or during the last 30 seconds of the class period
  • Allow students who need quick use of the library to do so without returning to the classroom for a pass. Example: A student says he needs to print his essay
  • Assist teachers with resources and encourage collaboration with the library
  • Be aware of what students are working on and viable resources

5. Maintain a professional atmosphere and professional behavior.
  • Welcoming and friendly to all
  • Use good grammar
  • Positive comments
  • Respect all patrons and create opportunities for acccessing information
  • Avoid judgmental comments
